FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) Is a powerboat easy to drive?

Yes, powerboats are easy to drive. Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals staff will describe the basic function of the controls and answer any questions you may have. Instructions will also include the rules of the road, areas to avoid and keeping an eye out for hazards.

2) Does Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals provide a driver or do we have to drive the boat ourselves?

Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals are driven by a responsible person in your party. Skippers can be hired at an additional fee as private contractors. If you are interested in booking a skipper to drive the boat for you, please let us know as soon as possible so we can get you in contact with an available driver.

3) Do we pay for gas?

Yes, renters are responsible for the gas used during your rental period. You will begin your rental with a full tank, so to maximize your time on the water, Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals staff can fill the tank after your rental and charge it to your previously collected security deposit. We will then email you a receipt so you can see the exact amount that was charged.

4) How many people can fit on our boats?

Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals requires rentals to be limited to 6 adults to maintain comfort.

5) How old do I have to be to rent a powerboat?

Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals requires renters to be 25 and over, although drivers/operators may be 21 and over.

6) Can I bring my dog on board?

Yes (additional fee applies). Captain Pickles enjoys spending time with dogs around his size, but he gets scared of dogs that are more than 30 lbs., so please leave the bigger dogs at home. Renters are responsible for any mess/damage their dogs may cause.

7) Can we play music on the boat?

Yes, there is a stereo on board. Standard FM stations are available or you can bring a device that will connect to the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Please do not leave the radio on while the engine is off as it will drain the battery.

8) How early do I need to check in?

Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals asks that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the time of your rental. We require a waiver to be filled out prior to your departure and do a quick check-out to ensure you are comfortable operating the rental boat.

9) Do you allow children and infants on board?

Yes, children and infants are welcome on the boat. All passengers, regardless of age, are counted towards the boat’s capacity. Arizona law requires that all children 12 and under wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket at all times. Infants and toddlers come in all shapes and sizes, so renters MUST provide their own USCG approved life vest for infants/children under 30 lbs. Life jackets are provided for all other passengers.

10) Can we bring food or drinks on board?

Captain Pickles loves to share snacks, so he says that you can too. Please keep in mind that you will need a designated driver if alcohol is consumed on the boat. If the boat is left with a large mess, we do reserve the right to charge a cleaning fee. For those bringing alcohol on board, please drink responsibly. Most boating accidents occur when alcohol is involved and any damage to the boat will be the renter’s responsibility.

11) Is the boat covered?

The boat has a cover (bimini) to shield you from the sun. If you wish to take it down, please contact Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals first so we can walk you through the process.

12) Do you provide coolers and/or ice?

Captain Pickles’ Boat Rentals provides an empty cooler that you may fill with your ice, water, snacks, etc. while out on the water.

13) How fast do the boats go?

Our boat travels at a maximum speed of approximately 35 miles per hour. Please keep safety precautions and speed in mind as there are “No Wake Zones,” shallow areas, and hazards around the lake.
